What makes a good cocktail, and what’s the most important thing when it comes to making one?
Definitely the ingredients. The measurements and technique to determine the different ingredients is also important. I feel that each spirit deserves respect and deserves to be treated with passion and certainty; some require a more delicate hand whereas others are just screaming to be mistreated. Glassware is also a key factor to a great cocktail; I believe it makes all the difference in the end from the presentation to the taste. The correct ice is also a very important attribute as the biggest mistake most people do is to use ice that is not pure or melts too quickly thus diluting the cocktail from the first sip to the last. A lot of beverages have different methods of cooling, so with the ice it is important to use the right one, such as hand cut, ball or chunky and so on.
Any tips to share with guests keen on visiting MEI?
To me, each guest should be treated individually. Some know what they want and I can tell what they need. If guests feel elegant and relaxed, then I’d suggest to try the whiskey bar, which is very cozy. Otherwise, guests could start the evening with a glass of champagne on the terrace, against the view of the CCTV building. Then as the evening moves on and the party starts, guests can enjoy the music and atmosphere by dancing with their friends. Last, I believe a top lounge bar needs to be fully stocked with a whirlwind of ingredients to suit whomever and whatever mood the guest may be in, and MEI has such a great variety of drink options, from fun cocktails to wine and whiskey.
