The fun-loving brand has unveiled an upscale retreat where cool cocktails and moonlit parties on the sand await after a day spent in the great outdoors.

Early April saw the debut of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort on one of the 61 islands that make up the heart-shaped Baa Atoll. A mere 35-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport, the Avani brand’s first foray into the Maldives — and the sixth Minor Hotels property in the Indian Ocean archipelago — provides adventure-seekers a stylish base from which to explore the protected waters of the country’s most celebrated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Comprising 176 studios and villas, the guest quarters come with contemporary rooms and indoor-outdoor living spaces. Avani Beach Studios start at US$650 per night and promise 50 square meters of living space, with the powdery white sands right outside. Other accommodation choices range from beach pool villas and four-bedroom beach pavilions, to expansive three-bedroom over water villas fanning out across the turquoise-hued shallows. The impressive selection of multi-bedroom configurations will suit multigenerational families and groups of friends. Every villa features a private sun deck; some have their own plunge pools.
While guests can opt for private dining experiences on the beach and inside the comfort of their villa, the resort’s seven restaurants and bars leave holidaymakers spoiled for choice. Together, Ocean Terrace and poolside bar Skipjack serve a tantalizing array of Maldivian and international fare; Charcoal tempts carnivores and seafood enthusiasts with grilled specialties. Tucked inside the lobby, Hammock presents grab-and-go snacks and kombuchas, while Tribe offers molecular cocktails and Smuggler’s Shack boasts the largest rum collection in the Maldives. All the on-site eateries source organic produce from the resort’s mini farm and use ocean-fresh catch delivered daily by local fishermen. Also on the island, the Maldives’ first kids-only restaurant, Petit Bistro, dishes up nutritious favorites from around the world.

Parents will enjoy more downtime thanks to the daily programing and nature-centric adventures at both AvaniKids and Teens Club. Guests can keep on top of their fitness goals at the AvaniFit gym and unwind at the contemporary AvaniSpa; the water sports center is the starting point for regular excursions to nearby Hanifaru Bay — known for its whale sharks and one of the world’s largest seasonal congregations of manta rays. And with no less than 12 dive sites just off the beach, a 220-meter house reef teeming with marine life including turtles, plus the nearby Fares Reef, the resort has plenty of undersea wonders right on its doorstep.
Among the opening offers at Avani+ Fares Maldives, a five-night stay for two in an Avani Sea View Studio is priced from US$4,100, while a seven-night escape for a family of four in an Avani Two Bedroom Beach Studio starts at US$10,750. Both packages include breakfast, taxes, and return seaplane transfers.
