Hong Kong’s flag carrier has announced the debut of Miles Plus Cash, a brand-new payment option that gives travelers the flexibility to pay using a customizable mix of Asia Miles and cash when booking seats on the airline’s website from March 30.

With Miles Plus Cash, customers can book any available seat option on any flight — including on partner airlines — with the benefit of instant confirmation. This offers more access to seat availability, as the minimum Miles required per purchase is set at just 5,000. Those who use Miles Plus Cash will also have the chance to earn further Miles and club points on their tickets for future trips.

Simon Large, Cathay Pacific’s director of customer services, said in a statement, “We are always looking for ways to make both earning and burning Miles simpler and enabling customers to have more flexibility. Miles Plus Cash is an excellent example of this. It is a very useful function that we believe makes travel planning and purchasing a whole lot easier and opens up a great way of using those Miles.”

After selecting a flight and seat on, an easy-to-use slider bar allows customers to decide exactly how many Asia Miles they wish to spend — ranging from a minimum of 5,000 miles to the amount required for the entire ticket purchase, promising maximum flexibility.
