Southeast Asia’s largest coliving property blends work, play, and living so seamlessly, you never quite know where it ends and begins.
If coliving sounds like a foreign concept to you, check yourself into lyf Funan Singapore for a whirl of a time. Designed for millennials and the millennial-minded, this 412-room coliving hotel blends work, play, and living so seamlessly, you never quite know where it ends and begins.
Aside from self-help check-in counters called the “Say Hi”, where residents go to collect their mobile keys from lyf guards, you’ll also find plush seats, colorful rocking chairs, and rabbit-shaped stools sprawled around the property. Quirky neon signs take pride of place on the walls, in the laundromat, and even the loos—each one practically begging for a spontaneous photoshoot. Instead of typical gym equipment, there’s monkey bars and a human-sized hamster wheel. Between meetings and catch-ups, consider hanging out in the ball pit, the photo booth, or the community kitchen. And if you’re feeling competitive, there’s always the giant Connect Four game set.
Whether you’re a party of six or flying solo, there’s an apartment for you. Groups of up to nine will love the All Together apartments, which feature two to six rooms with a shared kitchen, as well as an interactive smart screen to facilitate discussions. Fancy a whole night of uninterrupted gaming? Book the lyf Style room, which comes with a PlayStation console. Couples planning a staycation can have their privacy at the Two of a Kind apartment, which come with two rooms and a shared kitchenette. The cozy One of a Kind studio apartment in which I stayed, was modern yet cozy—think bed on a raised wooden platform, plenty of nooks to hang my knick-knacks, a rain shower, and views of lush greenery.
While there’re no restaurants in lyf, residents are encouraged to cook up a storm at the Bond social kitchen. The sprawling, full-fledged kitchen comes with stoves, ovens, bottles of seasoning, and even pasta, all meant to get one started with ease. Being a part of Funan mall has its perks—guests can simply head out to the mall’s many dining outlets. There’s Afuri ramen for silky-smooth yuzu ramen, Godmama for modern Peranakan cuisine, Paddyfolks for customizable rice bowls, and plenty more. Night owls can also catch a movie or two in the mall’s Golden Village cinema.
lyf residents will also have access to various perks at the mall, such as 10 percent discount on Wild Rice theater shows and PPP Coffee, as well as 25 percent off at Hawkerman from Monday to Thursday between 6-9:30 p.m.
With community bonding at the heart of lyf, it’s no surprise that activities are aplenty for its residents. Expect weekly social programs meant to inspire the exchange of ideas, including industry talks, wine appreciation classes, cooking classes, hawker food nights, and live music sessions.
