Wellness-minded travelers stopping over for a few days in the Gulf on a future trip will want to check out Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som — the first location outside Southeast Asia for the celebrated health resort in Hua Hin, Thailand. Situated near the northern tip of Qatar, and less than a 90-minute drive from downtown Doha, the coastal retreat is being billed as one of the first wellness destinations in the world to introduce a contemporary Traditional Arabic and Islamic Medicine (TAIM) offering. Therapists here take a novel approach to ancient healing practices first developed in the mid-11th century by Persian physician-philosopher Ibn Sina, known in the West as Avicenna.

Zulal’s comprehensive menu of over 400 TAIM treatments includes the traditional Qatari hamiz, a deeply relaxing massage using circular strokes, tadleek oil infused with medicinal herbs, and hot stones to reenergize the body and stimulate circulation. A range of Arabic spa rituals will also be offered at the resort’s hammam facilities.

Traditional hijama (cupping) therapy will be offered at the property.

Meanwhile, Chiva-Som’s emphasis on healthy, locally sourced cuisine will also be evident at the Qatari resort. In line with a foundational concept of “food as medicine,” the resort’s four restaurants will feature nutritious dishes that incorporate indigenous herbs, spices, minerals, and marine flora, alongside traditional superfoods such as figs, dates, olives, and camel milk.

The property is divided into two areas: adults-only Zulal Serenity will serve guests over 16 years of age seeking rebalance and quiet reflection, while Zulal Discovery is aimed at groups of multi-generational travelers. The latter’s approach to wellness incorporates educational activities, sports, and creative arts, as well as wellness treatments and cuisine that will appeal to all ages while encouraging family bonding.
