Two feature stories took second prize in the regional category for Excellence in Arts & Culture Reporting.
Singapore, August 28, 2020—Regional luxury travel publication DestinAsian has once again bagged a top accolade from the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) for Excellence in Arts & Culture Reporting (Honorable Mention). This year also marks the 15th year SOPA has recognized the magazine for editorial excellence.
With over 70 judges comprising a mix of journalists, publishers, academics, and industry peers, the annual SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence celebrate the highest standards of journalistic quality and integrity in the Asia-Pacific region.
DestinAsian was given an Honorable Mention for two feature stories: “House Proud,” Jonathan Hopfner’s narrative on Seoul’s flourishing hanok culture; and “Conserving Kolkata,” a look at Kolkata’s grand architectural heritage written by Jason Overdorf.
SOPA judges commended the entries for the “diversely evocative descriptions of two different approaches to architectural conservation.” They found the Seoul article an “informative travel piece on how South Korea’s traditional houses have become popular again,” and added that the inclusion of historical background added depth to the story.
Now with a total of more than 40 international awards and 18 years in publishing, DestinAsian strives to continue delivering travel stories that are both deeply engaging and enlightening for its readers around the world.
DestinAsian was established in 2001. It is the leading award-winning travel magazine in the Asia-Pacific region, with a print run of 25,000 copies and a readership of 75,000 per edition.
