Tiffin Room will be serving both North Indian cuisine and dishes from South Indian restaurant Samy’s Curry.
Gourmands visiting the Lion City’s grande dame hotel over the next few weeks will be in for a real treat. The Raffles’ historic Tiffin Room restaurant is teaming up for the very first time with Samy’s Curry, a family-run local institution on Dempsey Hill known for its true-blue South Indian fare (the establishment began as a humble roadside stall in the 1960s, and its original recipes and cooking methods have remained unchanged over the past few decades).
From February 25 to March 10, 2021, patrons can enjoy a sumptuous multicourse lunch or dinner that brings together dishes from both the North and South Indian culinary repertoire. North Indian starters from Tiffin Room such as tandoori prawn and tulsi mahi tikka (a mouth-watering fish tikka) are followed by perennial favorites at Samy’s Curry, including Mysore mutton, chicken masala, and fish curry made with the restaurant’s homemade spice blend. Also featured on the set menu are several of Tiffin Room’s signature dishes: scallops curry, lamb biryani, and Tiffin dal makhani (Punjabi lentil and kidney-bean stew with spices, butter, and cream).
An all-vegetarian option will also be available for lunch and dinner. Appetizers of kesari paneer and gucchi mushroom tikki (mushroom cutlet) will set the scene for a selection of Samy’s Curry specialties like mock chicken curry, aloo masala, and brinjal curry. Other mains include Tiffin Room’s subz biryani and Tiffin dal makhani, all served with assorted naan. A decadent rajbhog (Bengali saffron-scented paneer balls stuffed with nuts or dried fruit) served with chocolate jalebi brings both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian set menus to a sweet finish.
Tiffin Room is open for lunch each day from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., and dinner service runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night. The dress code is defined as “casual chic”; dress shorts are only allowed at lunchtime. A Tiffin Room x Samy’s Curry set meal costs S$78++ per person, while the vegetarian option is priced at S$68++.
