Etihad has just announced that it has become the first airline in the world to vaccinate all its operating pilots and cabin crew against Covid-19, a feat made possible through its “Protected Together” employee vaccination initiative. Formally launched in January this year, it includes virtual talks to connect staff with leading medical professionals — ensuring access to simple and clear vaccine information — and mobile clinics, which allowed employees to receive the vaccine at work.

Last year, Etihad became one of the first employers in the UAE capital to secure places for its frontline staff, including pilots and cabin crew, in Abu Dhabi’s inoculation program. The company also ensured that the Etihad Airways Medical Centre became an accredited Covide-19 vaccination clinic. Since December, in-house immunization appointments have been offered to Etihad employees and their loved ones, and more than 75 percent of the airline’s entire workforce have already received at least their first dose of the coronavirus jab.

Tony Douglas, Group Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said in a statement, “We proactively made the vaccine available to all our employees to not only help combat the effects of COVID-19 but to make travelers feel confident and reassured the next time they fly with us. We are the only airline in the world to make COVID-19 testing mandatory for every passenger and crew member before every flight and now, we’re the first airline in the world with 100 percent vaccinated crew on board.”
