Business-class flights on Finnair just got a lot more affordable. The Finland flag carrier is currently in the process of overhauling its fare types and will be launching its business class “light” fares on March 31. Valid for travel as of Fall 2020, these special fares will apply for flights within Europe, as well as flights between Europe and Asia.
Passengers who bought light fare tickets will be entitled to almost the same inclusions as the other business-class fares, such as two carry-ons weighing 8 kilograms, food, drinks, and lounge access.
However, these new fares won’t including a checked baggage allowance—meanwhile, other business-class fares include two checked bags of 32 kilograms each. Passengers will earn only 150 percent elite miles, instead of the 200-250% elite miles offered by other fares. Plus, changes and cancelations are not allowed.
That said, any baggage allowance from elite status would still be valid on business-class light fares.
Other airlines that offer unbundled business-class fares include Emirates, whose cheapest business-class fares come without lounge access, chauffeur service, or the ability to upgrade.
