Regent Shanghai Pudong will be the first Regent hotel to open globally after IHG’s acquisition of the brand.
With the signing of a new management agreement between IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and Shanghai 21st Century Hotel Co., Ltd, Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai will be rebranded as Regent Shanghai Pudong starting May 16.
According to IHG, all existing reservations will be automatically forwarded and honored by Regent Shanghai Pudong. Meanwhile, the hospitality group will also take over the management of its luxury apartments, which sit above the hotel in the same tower.
Back in 2o18, the group acquired a 51 percent stake in Regent Hotels and Resorts and said that “Since then IHG has worked quickly to combine its expertise in luxury with Regent’s deep heritage and revered legacy, relaunching the brand by evolving it to appeal to the modern luxury traveler.”
Overlooking the Lujiazui financial district, Regent Shanghai Pudong will be the first Regent hotel open globally after IHG’s acquisition of the brand. In the meantime, InterContinental Hong Kong is undergoing a major renovation and will be rebranded into a Regent Hotel by 2021. The hotel first opened its doors as a Regent property in 1980.
The luxury hotel brand is also expected to open new properties in Phu Quoc, Vietnam later this year, Bali, Indonesia in 2021, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Chengdu, China in 2023.
