Press “pause” on your hectic lifestyle by attending some virtual talks, workshops, and meditation sessions.
Still not sure about what to do this weekend? If you’re a fan of all things wellness, look here — Saturday (June 12) marks the 10th edition of Global Wellness Day, and luxury hotels around Asia have been quick to jump on board. The annual celebration is aimed at “making wellness a lifestyle” by promoting healthy living habits, achieving inner peace, and finding ways to increase our personal motivation. Appropriately, as unforeseen events over the past year and a half have turned our normal lives upside down, the overall theme for 2021 is “protecting our mental wellness during and after the pandemic.” Here are a few ways you can take part in Saturday’s festivities:
Chiva-Som, the acclaimed five-star health resort in Hua Hin, Thailand, has announced that it will be running 12 Hours of Transformation, a series of educational online activities led by its expert advisors and physicians. Expect complimentary hour-long classes that tackle a range of subjects, like understanding how yoga can help with weight loss, avoiding chronic illness through a well-balanced diet, making DIY kombucha, and recognizing and dealing with stress. Meanwhile, the Four Seasons brand will be conducting all kinds of virtual and in-person events across its global network of hotels. Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi will be organizing various activities throughout the day, all of which revolve around the theme of self-love. These include Zen eating meditation, a crystal bowl sound healing session, and an afternoon jog circling the Imperial Gardens. Early risers will want to join the yoga and meditation session at 8 a.m. local time via Instagram Live (@fsotemachi).
Over in Indonesia, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is streaming a 45-minute meditation hosted by Ibu Fera, the resort’s resident Wellness Mentor and former Buddhist nun. Set to take place at 4 p.m. Bali/Singapore/Hong Kong time (3 p.m. in Jakarta and Bangkok), the event will focus on increasing awareness and mindfulness to boost resilience; tune in via Instagram Live at @fsbali and find out more here.
Mandarin Oriental will be marking this day with 24 Hours of Wellness, which will be livestreamed from its hotels all around Asia and beyond. Viewers can join a meditation session in Tokyo, a pilates class in Abu Dhabi, a yoga program in Bangkok, and even a movement practice session with a professional tennis player in Kuala Lumpur. The day-long series will begin and end with a discussion on inner and outer strength to help viewers build motivation during this pandemic. Learn more here.
If you cannot attend any of these events, you can still take concrete steps to mark Global Wellness Day simply by drinking more water, taking a long walk, and eating more nutritious food. Additionally, committing to sleep at 10 p.m., doing a good deed, or having dinner with loved ones are also in line with the spirit of the celebration.
