Hyatt Regency Splashes Down in Koh Samui

Hyatt has opened its very first hotel on Koh Samui as the Thai island prepares to welcome back international travelers through the “Samui Plus” reopening scheme. Occupying a 3.2-hectare site with direct access to a semi-private beach, the 140-room Hyatt Regency Koh Samui is located in North Chaweng, just an eight-minute drive from the airport.

The resort’s contemporary, gallery-like spaces were the result of a collaborative effort between a trio of local design studios: The Office of Bangkok Architects, August Design, and P Landscape. The architecture takes its inspiration from the coastal landscape, a nearby protected forest of more than 600 yang na (Dipterocarpus alatus) and coconut trees, and the inviting waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Ocean-inspired décor with blue accents complement the neutral color palette of the minimalistic interiors.

Most of the guest quarters, which include 24 suites and villas, enjoy ocean views; all have a private balcony. Those booked into rooms with Regency Club benefits will have access to the Regency Club Lounge where complimentary breakfast and evening cocktails can be enjoyed in a more tranquil setting. Guests bedding down in the seven beachfront pool villas will get to lounge on a private deck and relax in spacious living and dining areas.

The Hyatt Regency’s four restaurants and bars serve up everything from authentic Thai cuisine to ocean-fresh seafood with Mediterranean sides and locally inspired afternoon tea sets. Guests can work up an appetite at the gym or hop between the resort’s four freeform pools that lead down to the beach. Younger guests will delight in the thrill of gliding down a slide into the kids’ pool, and parents will be able to drop off their children at Camp Hyatt for supervised playtime and activities such as arts and crafts sessions and movie nights.

Accessed via a grand staircase, the spa features five treatment rooms, including two couple’s suites with a private deck and outdoor tub. Guests can recharge with a curated menu of revitalizing treatments that incorporate indigenous Thai ingredients and wellness traditions.

Instagrammers should not miss the Gallery of Eight, a collection of eight photogenic spots spread throughout the property inspired by the island’s landmarks and laid-back lifestyle. Those looking to spend more time outdoors are welcome to pick fresh ingredients in the resort’s garden for a cooking class, or watch the sunrise from several elevated viewpoints on the grounds.
