Community bonding is at the heart of this 412-room property, which comes with fun social spaces, a human-sized hamster wheel, and a neon-lit laundromat.
At 11,241 square meters, the nine-story serviced apartment is Southeast Asia’s largest co-living property and also the world’s first property under the hospitality brand’s new lyf brand.
Located within the Lion City’s lifestyle and IT mall Funan, lyf will surprise those who are used to staying in an atypical serviced apartment or hotel. First of all, check-in counters are replaced by plush seats and colorful rocking chairs sprawled around the co-working lobby. Guests can check-in via a dedicated app that doubles as a room key, with the help of lyf Guards who are community managers, city and food guide, and event organizers all at once.
The vibe here is casual, hip, and incredibly photo-worthy—all elements meant to attract the booming millennial segment. According to Ms Mindy Teo, Ascott’s deputy managing director of lyf, this segment is the fastest growing travel demographic, forming a quarter of Ascott’s customer base.
While there are lifts, opt to take the stairs for easy access to fun social zones like a ball pit, a giant Connect Four set, as well as a gymnasium aptly called “Burn”, which comes with a human-sized hamster wheel in place of a regular threadmill.
Various social zones around the property will also play host to activities such as hackathons, TED talks, music jamming sessions, cooking sessions, or workshops with artisans.
Made to encourage bonding and interaction, the “Bond” kitchen is spacious enough for guests to prepare home-cooked meals together and partake in cooking classes.
The digitally savvy will feel right at home thanks to the use of mobile keys and seamless app access—no more calling up the front desk for last-minute requests.
A total of five apartment types are available to accommodate both short-term and long-staying guests, including One of a Kind, a studio unit with an ensuite bathroom; as well as Two of a Kind, which features two private rooms with a shared kitchenette.
Great for pop culture lovers, the gaming-theme lyf Style room is furnished with Marvel toys and Bearbrick figurines, as well as a PlayStation console.
For company retreats and family getaways? There’s the All Together apartment, which are ideal for groups of up to nine, with two to six rooms, and a large living space meant to facilitate discussions.
