Couples returning to the recently reopened Anantara Veli Maldives Resort can look forward to new accommodation options, butler service for all guests, and a fresh emphasis on wellness in the wake of an extensive nine-month revamp. New York–based designer Yuji Yamazaki remodeled the adults-only resort to blur the line between the indoors and outdoors, creating self-sufficient villas for extra privacy and airy public spaces with a contemporary tropical style. Refurbished restaurants at Anantara Veli range from the modern Japanese venue Origami to Cumin, whose menu encompasses regional dishes from India, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka.

Measuring in at 148 square meters, the resort’s six brand-new Beach Pool villas have sliding glass doors that open onto a private pool flanked by a cushioned daybed, an open-air living and dining space, and a bedroom surrounded by tropical foliage. Yamazaki also added an equal number of Deluxe Over Water Pool villas to the lineup, each one featuring a larger private pool and a deck with an overwater hammock.

As part of its pivot toward wellbeing, Anantara Veli now offers a personalized Wellness villa experience incorporating light, sound, and scent therapy that changes from day to night. The villas come with Ayurvedic spa amenities, a meditation mat, and a minibar stocked with herbal teas, shakes, and wholefood snacks. All stays in a Wellness villa include an on-arrival consultation, a daily yoga or personal training session, a healthy cooking class, and 20 percent savings on treatments at the in-house spa, Balance Wellness by Anantara. Spa-goers will find a brand-new Moroccan hammam where treatments use marocMaroc products, and facial and body therapies now harness gels and serums from London-based luxury skincare brand 111Skin.

Anantara Veli Maldives Resort is in the South Male Atoll, a half-hour’s speedboat ride from Velana International Airport. Rates start from US$750++ per night on a half board basis.
