With Malaysia’s recent transition into the Covid-endemic phase, its flag carrier has been gradually rebuilding global network while adding its third destination in the Middle East after Jeddah and Medina. May 25 will mark the inaugural flight of a brand-new daily nonstop service between Kuala Lumpur and Doha, with Airbus A330-300s deployed on the route. Each aircraft comes equipped with 290 seats, comprising 27 seats in business class, 16 in economy with extra legroom, and 247 standard economy seats. The outbound flight, MH 160, is scheduled to depart at 9:20 p.m. to land in the Qatari capital at 11:50 p.m. after seven and a half hours in the air. Flight MH 161 will then leave Hamad International Airport at 1:30 a.m. the next morning and arrive back in Kuala Lumpur at 2:20 p.m. local time.

Ahead of the launch, Malaysia Airlines is deepening its strategic partnership with Qatar Airways. The two Oneworld partners have agreed to significantly expand their codeshare cooperation, adding 34 destinations for a total tally of 96 codeshare destinations around the world. Travelers will have access to a much greater combined network and enjoy a seamless travel experience on both airlines with a single ticket including check-in, boarding, and baggage-check processes, as well as frequent flyer benefits and world-class lounge access for the entire journey.

Starting from May 25, customers flying on Malaysia Airlines’ new Kuala Lumpur–Doha service will have access to 62 codeshare destinations within the Qatar Airways network. Likewise, Qatar Airways customers traveling from Doha to Kuala Lumpur can transfer to 34 Malaysia Airlines’ destinations including its entire domestic network and key markets around Asia.

The enhanced cooperation will also include reciprocal loyalty benefits allowing Qatar Airways Privilege Club members to earn and redeem Avios points when flying on Malaysia Airlines, with similar benefits for Malaysia Airlines Enrich members when traveling on Qatar Airways’ services. Privilege Club and Enrich members will also enjoy a wide range of other unique benefits, depending on tier status, such as complimentary lounge access, complimentary extra baggage allowance, priority check-in, priority boarding and priority baggage delivery on both Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways.
