Hotel check-in is the latest part of the travel experience to undergo a tech reinvention. Marriott Hotels have launched a mobile application that allows guests to check-in after 4 p.m. the day before their arrival and receive a notification when their room is ready. Check-in is then expedited through a dedicated mobile concierge desk, allowing guests to quickly pick up their keys and proceed to their room. Testing of the mobile check-in process began just three months ago at 31 properties and the response has been overwhelming—the application has already received more than 2 million downloads. Available on iOS and Android platforms, the application is only available for Marriott Rewards members at this time and for Marriott hotels in North America. Tech-loving guests fear not—the application is already planned for launch in 15 additional countries by November 2013.
