Living up to French Polynesia’s reputation as one of the world’s most romantic places—even Marlon Brando once fell in love here—the St. Regis Bora Bora couldn’t be a better destination for lovebirds, thanks in part to its romance concierge Nathalie Demaille, whose job it is to create vacations that sweep guests off their feet.
Bora Bora is known for its romantic scenery, and that’s what attracts many of our guests. Our part of the island is covered in tropical flowers, sits on a blue lagoon, and faces the extinct volcano Mount Otemanu.
Some of our wedding setups are quite unusual. In our traditional Polynesian ceremony, couples are carried to the beach by “warriors” and treated to a performance of Polynesian music and dance. We also offer underwater weddings that see couples wear special dive suits and helmets and say their vows four meters deep.
Thinking outside of the box is important when designing experiences. I just helped create our new Romance Menu, which includes options like having breakfast in a floating canoe and under-water photo shoots. Guests often have ideas of their own too. Once we pulled off a candlelit dinner that ended with “Marry Me” spelled out in flames, followed by fireworks.
Nothing’s more inspiring than hearing someone’s dream of a romantic gesture and then making it happen. It’s wonderful to get to be a part of their story. —Gabrielle Lipton
