ONYX Hospitality Group Debuts Y Hotel Hong Kong

A brand-new property by the Bangkok-based ONYX Hospitality Group, the 96-room Y Hotel Hong Kong opened its doors just before Christmas in the eclectic Sheung Wan neighborhood. Accommodations range from compact quarters that either face the city or the water to the One Bedroom Harbour Suite, whose 38 square meters incorporate a living area with large windows looking south to Victoria Peak, a dining table, and a pantry. Each room features a color palette of warm, earthy tones, as well as comfortable Slumberland beds and blackout curtains for a good night’s sleep.

Downstairs, the abbreviated guest facilities come as no surprise given the narrow site in space-starved Hong Kong. There is no swimming pool, spa, or gym; travelers can swap the treadmill for morning jogs along the waterfront promenade at the nearby Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, reached via a pedestrian footbridge. Source Bar on the hotel’s first floor serves cocktails and canapés, but for something more substantial, guests can depend on the myriad neighborhood cha chaan tengs in the surrounding area. Also close at hand are the famed Kwan Kee Claypot Rice; local institution Sammy’s Kitchen for old-school steaks and Hong Kong–style Western fare; and Spanish, Indian, and Japanese restaurants, all within a five-minute walk of the property.

Situated on a section of Des Voeux Road West nicknamed Dried Seafood Street, Y Hotel is steps away from a tram stop and a three-minute stroll from the Sai Ying Pun MTR station. The Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal and Central Ferry Piers, which have links to Kowloon and outlying islands like Lantau, are slightly farther afield.

Y Hotel is running a special opening deal on its website with 20 percent off best flexible rates for stays from now until March 31, 2023. ONYX Rewards members will receive an extra 10 percent discount on this offer; full prepayment is a must at time of booking.
