Grounded in Australia? Here’s another way to cheer up a loved one who is hungry for travel.
Anyone who misses the experience of traveling in Qantas business class can now replicate its glamour while locked down at home. With practically all its international flights suspended until the end of March 2021, the Australian flag carrier is putting some of its excess stock of J-class pajamas, amenity kits, and snacks to good use by turning them into care packs that can be delivered anonymously as a “random act of kindness” to a friend or family member in self-isolation. Each sender will have the chance to mail up to 10 of the parcels anywhere in Australia by ordering them through the Qantas website for AU$25 or 4,350 Qantas Points per pack, with the delivery fee included.
The airline’s executive manager of product and service, Phil Capps, says the special gifts “offer Australians the opportunity to reach out to those they’re separated from due to border restrictions and lockdowns.” According to the airline, every Qantas care pack includes a business class sleeper suit at L/XL size; one Qantas Curates business-class amenity kit with ASPAR Travel Essentials (sweet orange and shea hand cream, face moisturizer, and sweet orange lip balm); 12 individually wrapped Tim Tams; a 200-gram pack of smoked almonds, typically served in Qantas first class; and a packet of 10 T2 lemongrass and ginger tea bags.
These parcels are now on sale at qantas.com/rewardsstore. Free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership is being offered to non-members so they can join the program and send care packs.
