The leading Gulf carrier is taking further steps to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission in the aircraft cabin.
Prevailing concerns about cleanliness and hygiene have completely reshaped air travel as we know it, and airlines around the world are adopting contactless procedures throughout the pre-departure process or even in the air. As part of its evolving Covid-19 safety measures, Qatar Airways has partnered with the Thales AVANT IFE system to introduce “Zero-Touch” technology on board its Airbus A350s. Travelers will soon be able to access the Oryx One inflight entertainment via their personal electronic devices by connecting them to the Oryxcomms Wi-Fi and scanning a QR code displayed on the screen. Passengers can then use their mobile phones to navigate and enjoy the more than 4,000 entertainment options included in Oryx One, limiting the frequency of on-board surface contact and providing even greater peace of mind.
Similarly, those booked in business- and economy-class cabins across the carrier’s Boeing 787-9 fleet will eventually have the option of pairing their personal Bluetooth headphones with the on-board seatback IFE system. Qatar Airways is set to become the first airline in Europe and the Middle East and North Africa to offer this capability.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said in a statement, “Qatar Airways is committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and hygiene on board its aircraft at all times. The introduction of the state-of-the-art Zero-Touch technology, and enabling passengers to use their personal Bluetooth headset on board is an important step in taking our already rigorous and stringent Covid-19 precautions to another level, limiting passenger surface contact and preventing any possible spread of infection on board.
“We hope it provides yet further assurance of the safety of air travel, as well as offering passengers on board increased confidence that they are enjoying the most consistently advanced customer experience available in the sky.”
