Thanks to a growing list of perks for getting the coronavirus jab, travel-starved Hong Kong residents have even more reason to book their vaccine appointments in the next two months. Major prizes for various “vaccine lotteries” announced by local businesses include a one-bedroom apartment, a Tesla Model 3 electric car, a private flight on a Cathay Pacific Airbus A321, and now, one whole year of free stays courtesy of the Shangri-La Group.

The hospitality brand says this will be valid at any of its 100-plus hotels spanning no less than 76 destinations across the globe, with one lucky winner entitled to stay on a complimentary basis at Shangri-La’s flagship properties in London, Paris, Tokyo, and Singapore once international borders reopen. Within Hong Kong, free nights can be spent on staycations at Island Shangri-La and Kowloon Shangri-La; the winner will also have the chance to check in to Kerry Hotel and JEN Hong Kong when they are no longer used as quarantine hotels.

Hui Kuok, Chairman of the Shangri-La Group, said in a statement, “Hong Kong is our home and we are keen to do our part to help with the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccines across the city. We know that people just want to get out there and travel, so we are trying new things to help ensure we can all do that safely once again. Getting vaccinated is crucial to protecting ourselves, our loved ones and our community. It has been a tough 17 months for everyone here but I hope that the community can rally together to put these bad times behind us.”

To be eligible for the prize, residents must be aged 18 and above and hold valid Hong Kong Identity Cards (employment visas issued by the government are valid too). Participants must have also received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in Hong Kong before August 31, 2021, which is also the closing date of the lucky draw. Residents who have already received both doses of the vaccine before the lucky draw’s launch date can also join the contest, and details on how to sign up will be announced in the coming weeks on the Shangri-La Group’s website and social media channels.
