While Singapore Airlines prepares to resume ultra-long-haul nonstop flights to New York early next week (on November 9), it is also reinstating a handful of regional Asian routes and bumping up the frequency of flights to certain cities such as Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. The SIA Group is now on track to reach approximately 16 percent of its pre-pandemic passenger capacity by the end of January 2021.
As part of Singapore Airlines’ ongoing network rebuild, four more cities in the Asia-Pacific region are being added back to schedules. The carrier has just resumed weekly services between Singapore and Bandar Seri Begawan: flight SQ148 departs from Changi every Sunday at 8:40 in the morning and touch down in the Bruneian capital at 10:50 a.m. The return service will leave Brunei at 11:55 a.m. and reach Singapore at 2:05 p.m.
Today (November 5) marks the relaunch of regular flights to Fukuoka. These are scheduled once a week on Thursdays, with the outbound service taking off from Changi at 2:15 a.m. to land in the southern Japanese city at 9:05 the same morning. After a turnaround time of less than two hours, flight SQ655 will depart Fukuoka at 10:55 a.m. and arrive back in Singapore at 4:30 p.m.
Regional subsidiary SilkAir is set to restart its Da Nang service on November 29, though the weekly flights will only be one-way from Vietnam given that country’s continued border restrictions. SilkAir then plans to restart scheduled passenger services to the Maldives from December 1, with twice-weekly flights operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Maldives is one of the few countries in the Asia-Pacific region now welcoming leisure travelers of all nationalities, but visitors must show proof that they have tested negative for Covid-19 through a PCR test conducted within 96 hours of departure.
