SIA Updates List of Approved Cities for Transits at Changi

Athens, Kota Kinabalu, and Manado are being added as Scoot resumes flights to all three destinations.

The fluid pandemic situation has not stopped the Singapore Airlines Group from ramping up its efforts to restore Changi Airport’s role as a key stopover point for global travelers. Thanks to lower infection rates in the United Kingdom and South Africa, those flying in from London and Johannesburg are allowed to catch connecting flights at Changi once more.

Transits from three more Scoot destinations can also resume this month: Kota Kinabalu will be added back to the list this Saturday (May 8), while flights to Athens start on May 20, and those to the Indonesian city of Manado will relaunch on May 28. In related news, Singapore Airlines was originally slated to resume regular services to Denpasar sometime this month, but those plans have since been postponed as international passenger flights to and from Bali remain suspended for now.

In line with the latest border measures implemented in the Lion City, passengers with a travel history to Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in the past 14 days are no longer allowed to transit through Changi Airport. For this reason, Colombo, Dhaka, and Kathmandu have been temporarily taken off the list of approved points of departure.

Singapore Airlines and Scoot have stopped carrying transit passengers to Hong Kong citing “regulatory requirements.” Both carriers were recently slapped with two-week flight bans on the route, as a number of transit passengers tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival and documentation carried by others did not meet the standards set out by Hong Kong health authorities. That said, services from Hong Kong to Singapore remain unaffected, and passengers originating from Hong Kong are still allowed to transfer through Changi en route to their final destinations.

So far, SIA has signed interline agreements with seven other carriers to allow their customers to fly from any of the approved points of departure and then continue their journeys on SIA Group flights. These are:

  • Air France
  • Air Niugini
  • Garuda Indonesia
  • KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
  • Lufthansa
  • Swiss International Air Lines
  • Turkish Airlines
