Art Stage Singapore, the leading contemporary art fair in the city-state, has announced plans to bring the major art event to neighboring Indonesia with Art Stage Jakarta, the fair’s first venture outside of its home base in the seven years since its launch. Slated to take place on August 5 to 7, the festivities will be held at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, with Lorenzo Rudolf, founder and president of the event, said to be working with Leo Silitonga, owner of Jakarta’s Umahseni gallery, to bring up to 50 galleries to participate. Held just four weeks before the annual Bazaar Art Jakarta, the event will offer art enthusiasts and collectors a chance to take a better look at works by Indonesia’s talented contemporary artists through approximately 2,500 artworks.
“Indonesia is the heartbeat of Asia, injecting the region with energy, passion and creative vision for art,” Rudolf said. “It is Southeast Asia’s leading center of art production and collecting with its community of prolific artists and strong base of experienced collectors. Art Stage Jakarta will serve as the world’s unique window to the richness and diversity of contemporary Indonesian art, ensuring that it will have a strong regional and international presence.”
