AirAsia’s Thai subsidiary is expanding its footprint in the Indian subcontinent this winter, giving history buffs and adventure travelers more opportunities to go off the beaten track. The low-cost carrier says it will soon launch regular passenger services from Bangkok Don Mueang to its seventh and eighth South Asian destinations. November 24 will see Thai AirAsia begin four-times-weekly flights to Dhaka, the Bangladeshi capital. Must-see monuments around town include the 17th-century Lalbagh Fort and its gardens, Ahsan Manzil (aka the “Pink Palace”) built by a wealthy landowner in 1872, and the National Assembly Building designed by famed modernist architect Louis Kahn.

Over in neighboring India, thrice-weekly flights from Don Mueang to Lucknow in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh will commence on December 4. Lucknow draws in-the-know visitors for grand examples of Mughal architecture like the Bara Imambara – a colossal 18th-century Shia mosque and tomb complex; its indulgent Awadhi cuisine; and its bustling bazaars. Promotional fares for the Don Mueang–Dhaka flights start from only THB 3,590 (roughly US$95) per trip for AirAsia members, while the Don Mueang–Lucknow flights are available from only THB 3,290 (US$87) per trip. The special prices can be booked ‘till October 16 for travel until March 25, 2023 via the airasia Super App.

Since Covid-19 travel restrictions were lifted, Thai AirAsia has resumed operations on six routes to South Asia, flying from Don Mueang to Bangalore, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, and Male. The two newly announced routes tap into a growing demand for travel into Thailand, with the increasing number of tourists from India and nearby countries expected to continue well into 2023.

The flight schedule for Thai AirAsia’s newest routes are as follows:
