Best of all? You’ll wake up to 360-degree views of wildlife in the Laikipia plains in Kenya, Africa.
When it comes to offering a bird’s-eye view, no hotel takes it quite as literally as the stunning Nay Palad Bird Nest at Segera Retreat.
Perched high above the ground on a 24281-hectare wildlife sanctuary in the Laikipia plains in Kenya, Africa, the unusual retreat lets guests experience what it’s like to cozy up in a bird’s nest.
Part of the Segera Retreat, the two-story hotel is beautifully constructed with interwoven tree branches yet comes with all the modern amenities and creature comforts of a luxury hotel — think: bathrooms with solar-heated running water.
Naturally, the real treat is the view. Guests can opt to sleep on an indoor double bed on the lower floor or spend the night on open-air accommodations on the second floor (which doubles as a viewing platform). By night, expect to sleep under a full sky of stars, and enjoy 360-degree views of elephants and giraffes when day breaks.
Before arriving at the hotel in time for sunset, guests are first taken on a spin of the surrounds via a game drive or a bush walk, which teem with wildlife. As night falls, they’ll be invited to enjoy champagne and dinner on the open-air nest. The next morning, the excitement continues with a picnic breakfast.
Prices start at US$1150 per night.
