With a food laboratory and legendary themed parties, sophisticated design and a gorgeous beachside setting, KU DE TA has on every account stood as one of Bali’s top hot spots since it opened in 2000. And this summer, the Seminyak institution has given itself a major update with the opening of a brand new restaurant and bar space: Tuile.
Set above the newly refurbished Fidel’s Bar, Tuile is the result of the largest renovation KU DE TA has undertaken during the past 15 years. After the entire right side of the building was razed to the ground, Italian architect and designer Alessandro Napoli rebuilt it into a polished two-part space, with an airy interior rich with tiling and wood and an expansive outdoor deck overlooking the ocean.
Given KU DE TA’s gastronomic expertise, it comes as no surprise that the menu here is filled with dishes such as house-made camembert, fois gras parfait, tea-soaked raisin salad, Washington oysters, and Sturia caviar. Cocktail options are equally impressive, using high-tech equipment and seasonal ingredients in drinks such as the Gin and Juice, a Tanqueray-based drink with pomelo, Campari, pomegranate, and grapefruit, and the Mandarin Napoleon with Ketel One citron, cranberry juice, and bergamot. A Funktion One sound system and DJ sets on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are sure to draw a reveling crowd during the later hours, though there’s no doubt that come evening, those looking for Seminyak’s chicest sunset-gazing spot are going climb the elegant staircase up from Fidel’s and find their favorite new perch at Tuile.
