Checking In at The Balé

A short drive from Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport, the recently renovated Balé (Jl. Raya Nusa Dua Selatan; 62-361/775-111; thebale.com; doubles from US$750), a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, offers 29 villas with private butler service in the heart of Nusa Dua. Each of the hotel’s single pavilions is 240 square meters, including a 32-square-meter private swimming pool, rising to 480 square meters for the two-bedroom pavilions. Complimentary minibar and MP3 sound systems are welcome additions, while visitors to the hotel’s signature restaurant, Faces, which is set at the peak of the hotel around the Balé’s redesigned two-stage swimming pool, will find a high standard of both Indonesian and European cuisine—from mango-glazed foie gras to bebek betutu (duck with local spices). The Balé’s spa hosts visiting practitioners in a variety of specialist fields, while the spa restaurant’s menu uses local herbs and fruits as its anchor point.
