AirJapan, the new airline brand first revealed by All Nippon Airways in March 2022, has recently teased details on its seats, uniforms, and boarding music ahead of its debut, with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners utilized for this budget carrier that promises “comfortable cabin space at affordable prices.” AirJapan intends to start running international flights in February 2024 to Southeast Asia, before expanding its network over time to reach more destinations across the continent.
The all-economy cabin interior and seats in Japanese faux leather are the work of the British studio Acumen Design Associates. With an above-average pitch of 32 inches, ample legroom, and a deeper recline, the design offers passengers in the 324 seats more comfort compared to a standard low-cost carrier. Type-A and Type-C USB ports and tablet holders will be provided for the convenience of smartphone and tablet users.
Partly made from plant-derived fabrics, AirJapan’s cabin attendant uniforms express the brand’s “Fly Thoughtful” philosophy, emphasizing the core value of kindness to all. The airline aims to promote a diverse and inclusive workforce by incorporating gender-neutral options and allowing for variations in coordinating outfits. The design includes traditional Japanese cultural elements like knots, represented by the brand’s color belt, and layers, exemplified in an overlapping pattern visible in the hem of the skirt and sleeves.
AirJapan’s boarding music, titled “Ai,” was created in collaboration with the Tokyo University of the Arts; musicians composed an ensemble piece that combined the traditional Japanese sounds of shakuhachi and koto with Western instruments. As for in-flight dining, passengers will be able to order authentic Japanese fare for a set fee ahead of their flights, or purchase meals and snacks onboard. The specific menu selection will be announced when ticket sales begin.
The latest updates on routes and cabin products can be seen on the carrier’s newly launched brand website, flyairjapan.com.
