In a ceremony known as the Royal Waterway Procession, a flotilla of 52 majestic barges float down the Chao Phraya, carrying the royal family to Wat Arun. The water-borne parade is an age-old tradition and one of the grandest spectacles in the country. Date for 2011: Oct. 22.
