A licensed bar in Beijing kitted out to resemble prohibition-era Chicago may be a bootleg in itself, but Leon Lee and Warren Pang look the real deal when it comes to shaking up the capital’s cocktails. After making names for themselves with Apothecary and dLounge, the pair has opened Janes and Hooch, a speakeasy-style venue under low lights in Chaoyang. Choose between a bar stool and a leather banquette and plump for one of Lee and Pang’s variations, such as the Boulevardier of Old Fitzgerald Campari and Cinzano Rosso, served with the obligatory cucumber water, or for something short, the Mister Hemingway. Upstairs, patrons can find bottle service delivered with a DIY cocktail set while enjoying the playlist of blues and jazz, as well as a bar menu featuring oysters from Stella Bay.
