Alila’s Luxury Liveaboard Sets Sail in Indonesia

It may not be the most budget-friendly phinisi (traditional teakwood schooner) to ply the reef-rich Raja Ampat archipelago, but Alila Purnama ( does look set to raise the bar on liveaboard luxury in the region. The latest addition to the Alila hotel group’s Indonesian portfolio is a 46-metre-long cruiser with five spacious cabins, a dive center, a spa therapist, and a gourmet galley that turns out ocean-fresh seafood. Sailing from the West Papuan port of Sorong, a six-night island-hopping cruise package for 10 people will set you back US$54,000. That includes shore excursions and two dives a day—not to mention the privilege of exploring some of the planet’s most biodiverse waters in style. –David Tse
