Jakarta Shopping: the Goods Dept.

A welcome counterpoint to the high-end global brands that dominate Jakarta’s glitzier malls, the Goods Dept. (thegoodsdept.com) at Plaza Indonesia is a raw, warehouse-style space showcasing a revolving cast of homegrown designers and cult international labels. Established names such as Bali-based jeweler Johnny Ramli and Stella Rissa, whose edgy take on the cocktail dress made her a darling of the Jakarta catwalk scene, are arrayed alongside budding talents like Shahnaz Soraya, a recent fashion-school graduate who debuted her daywear label Anez here. Adding to the store’s appeal is a casual café serving California-inspired comfort food like coffee-rubbed burgers with Parmesan fries. –Lauren Kelana
