The Eastern & Oriental Hotel, a beautifully restored colonial property on Malaysia’s Penang Island, is scheduled to open a new modern wing called the Victory Annexe around December.

We toured the site on a recent trip and were pleased to discover Victorian design elements like claw-footed bath tubs, lazy ceiling fans, and a cupola in the lobby lending a nice heritage touch to the new venue. All the rooms have breezy private balconies and impressive sea views.

The Victory Annexe is located next to the original hotel and will feature about 140 rooms and suites, with prices starting at around US$180 per night.
