Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has announced it will manage an island resort in the Palawan Province of the Philippines. Called the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Huma Island, the resort is scheduled to open toward the end of this year.

The province holds well over 1,700 islands, many with white beaches, lush rainforests, and picturesque mountains. The waters around tiny Huma Island are well known among divers for the abundant marine life, pristine coral reefs, and most notably a dozen or so shipwrecks.

The resort — the only one on the island — will feature 80 over-water bungalows with private Jacuzzis and a contemporary tropical design. Among the resort’s offered excursions will be island-hopping in a traditional Philippine bangka boat.

“The natural splendour of this astonishing part of the world combined with the magic of Huma Island is absolutely unforgettable,” said Andreas Mattmüller, the hotelier’s chief operating officer for the Middle East & Asia. “Truly it is paradise found.”

Guests can enjoy the natural beauty even while getting a massage, as the resort’s spa will feature glass floors. Six food and beverage outlets will offer a variety of cuisines, including Lebanese, Italian, and Asian. A library, entertainment room, and fitness center complete the picture.

The resort is one of 15 Mövenpick properties slated to be opened in Asia by 2015. The Swiss hotelier already manages a property in India, the Philippines, and Singapore, as well as two each in Thailand and Vietnam.
