If you’re looking for an upcoming festival with literary leanings, check out the first annual Singapore Art Book Fair. The event will take place from November 27 to December 1, 2013 in the Gillman Barracks, a former army barrack that has become a showcase for Asian contemporary art. The event is the brainchild of Tiong Bahru bookstore BooksActually and Singapore design consultancy HJGHER with the support of a grant through the Singapore Tourism Board Kickstart Fund. The first edition of the fair will exhibit contemporary art books and magazines supporting small, independent publishers, distributors, and retailers. Fringe activities include film screenings, silk screen printing tutorials, rubber stamp carving, performances, and other workshops. Entrance to the event is free but activities may carry a ticket price. Consider making it an immersive art weekend by hopping over to the Singapore Biennale 2013 after your visit.
