Melbourne: Dramatic Architecture Down Under

The architecture is suitably dramatic at Melbourne’s newest arts enclave, where two eye-catching buildings—the Melbourne Recital Centre ( and the MTC Theatre (—have opened side by side on Southbank Boulevard. The former features a 1,000-seat, timber-walled auditorium with “bubble” glazing to permit stunning city views, while the latter, a state-of-the-art 500-seat venue, is all about illusion: floodlit white cubes that appear to shift at different angles. –ND
