Weighing in at 25 kilograms, “The Design Hotels XXL Limited Edition Book 2013” is a grand way of celebrating the 20th anniversary of Design Hotels. It’s also an award-winning way to celebrate. The 800-page publication was recently recognized by one of the world’s most illustrious design prizes: the Red Dot Award for Communication Design. The book was created as an ode to travel and includes photographs of 240 hotels from 150 places around the world paired with descriptions of the properties and destinations. Design Hotels collaborated with the Finnish design firm Artek to create only 1,000 XXL copies of the fabric hardcover book and paired the publication with a especially-created version of Alvar Aalto’s stylish and timeless Stool 60 and table. The XXL book plus stool and table retails for US$3,302, while the coffee-table version of the book is $79.
