London, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, and Geneva—Dorchester Collection’s portfolio of hotels encompasses some of the pre-eminent headquarters of the rag trade and it is building on this heritage with a competition to find and promote fashion’s next superstar. Entering its fourth year, the annual prize in search of the best up-and-coming design talent concludes with a catwalk show at a Dorchester property for shortlisted finalists and a US$40,000 award for the winner. Past winners Thomas Tait, Anndra Neen, and Augustin Teboul, have gone on to feature in Vogue and the New York Times, among others, and receive critical acclaim for their collections. The panel for the 2013 Fashion Prize counts scion Vivian Ferragamo and jewelry-designer Stephen Webster among the judges—applications are open to designers of couture, ready-to-wear clothing, and premium accessories who have been in business for two years or more. “Our aim is to continue to attract a high standard of talent,” says Christopher Cowrday, chief executive of Dorchester Collection. “It’s been rewarding to follow the success of previous winners and finalists, knowing that the prize has helped them to make that next step to global success and recognition.” Entry forms can be downloaded here—the deadline for applications is May 31.
