Modeled after a traditional Spanish sherry tavern, Drakes Tabanco sits in the heart of Fitzrovia and specializes in rare and premium sherries straight from the barrel. Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla, an award-winning winery in Jerez, Spain, is responsible for producing the sherries on offer, including a divinely smokey 30-year-old Antique Palo Cortado.
If you’re only after a quick snifter, you can sit at the traditional tabanco counter at the front and enjoy a glass fresh from the cellar barrel. It’s worth taking advantage of the extensive tapas-style menu, though as the Andalusian-inspired cuisine at Drakes complements the sherries perfectly. It features an extensive offering of charcuterie and cheese as well as an excellent selection of mains—the rolled lamb breast, puy lentils, rosemary, and salsa verde is excellent and big enough to share. If you fancy taking a taste of Jerez back with you, you can purchase from a range of exclusive hand-bottled sherries.
