HONORS CIRCLE: SINGAPORE
1 The Knolls, Sentosa Island
Old-world charm and contemporary style blend seamlessly at Capella Singapore, one of the finest luxury resorts on Sentosa Island. Spread across 12 hectares of lush grounds dotted with mature trees on a knoll overlooking the South China Sea, the flagship property of the Capella brand is centered on two connected British colonial bungalows built in the 1880s. These once served as an officers’ mess of the British Royal Artillery, and now house the reception as well as a lounge and fine-dining restaurant. An understated modern extension by Foster + Partners embraces the heritage buildings, echoing its older counterparts in the color scheme and use of timber louvers on the undulating facade.
Guest quarters at Capella Singapore comprise 112 rooms, suites, and villas — a selection that also includes a number of three-bedroom Manors on the fringes of the estate. All feature elegant interiors by the late and great Indonesian designer Jaya Ibrahim. While 38 one- or two bedroom pool villas fan out from the main building, larger families and groups of friends seeking out an extravagant getaway should book a Manor with a lap pool; guests can pick between two historic Colonial Manors or purpose built contemporary lodgings. These also come with an array of additional benefits, including the services of a villa host and in-manor dining experiences curated by the culinary team.
When it comes to dining, the offerings are suitably decadent. All-day restaurant The Knolls is known for its indulgent breakfasts and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Cassia, meanwhile, serves up Cantonese fare with an unexpected twist in a dining room created by Hong Kong–based star designer André Fu. Also notable is Chef’s Table, a home-style kitchen that provides an intimate setting for private suppers and special occasions for up to 20 patrons. Sundowners are best enjoyed on the expansive outdoor deck at Bob’s Bar; opt for a cocktail that uses Navegante, a rum made exclusively for Capella Singapore.
Aside from taking a dip in the threetiered outdoor pool, guests should also spend some time at the award-winning Auriga Spa, whose signature treatments have been designed around the phases of the moon. The luxurious facilities here range from vitality pools and aromatherapy showers to a relaxation lounge equipped with sound wave lounge chairs.
Capella’s intuitive and personalized service begins even before arrival, and the in-house Capella Culturists will be on hand to arrange curated guest experiences that celebrate Singapore’s heritage, arts scene, and gastronomy for an even more memorable stay.
