Bincho
For his latest venture, hotelier and restaurateur Lok Lik Peng has taken over a 70-year-old coffee shop, Hua Bee, in Tiong Bahru, leaving the front of the eatery intact (including its beloved mee pok noodles stall) while converting the rear space into a spiffy evenings-only bar serving yakitori skewers and “Japeritifs.” Accessed via a blink- and-you’ll-miss-it back door, Bincho is as cozy a drinking den as you’ll find in Singapore, with brass-and-wood seating and cross-cultural cocktails like the Yuzu Be Alright—sake, gin, Gran Classico, yuzu, and mint —that live up to their names (78 Moh Guan Terrace #01-19; 65/6438-4567).
