Hawaiian Airlines has continued to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific since the launch of the only direct flight by a U.S. airline to New Zealand in March. On June 25, the airline commenced non-stop service from Honolulu, Hawaii to Sendai, Japan with a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Sendai marks the Hawaiian’s fifth destination in Japan and 10th international gateway.

Hawaiian Airlines made waves in March with its Auckland service due to the limited options for travelers in North America journeying to Australia. Most flights must transfer in major West Coast hubs such as Los Angeles or Dallas, or fly via the Middle East. From New York, with a layover in Honolulu, the flight is broken into two halves allowing a more comfortable transition between flights. A 294-seater Airbus A330-200 is servicing this thrice weekly flight.

Hawaiian also flies to South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, American Samoa, and Tahiti. New nonstop service will begin between Honolulu and Taipei, Taiwan on July 9, 2013. Plans for service to Beijing are expected to begin in April 2014.
