In the wake of other premium cabin redesigns, Qantas has unveiled its new Airbus A330 and Boeing B717 interiors. Most notable in the upgrade are the new business class suites in every Qantas A330 with with fully flat beds and direct aisle access from every seat. The seat is uniquely configured so that it may remain in a recline position for take-off and landing, ensuring uninterrupted rest while on the flight. Australian designer Marc Newson is behind the sleek, quilted seat redesign. Ten A330-300s will feature new economy seats and 20 A330-200s will have their economy seats refurbished. The new interiors will be featured from late 2014.

QantasLink, the regional carrier of Qantas, also unveiled its new B717 product. Five of its 110-seat B717 aircrafts will feature a new business class cabin interior and iPad entertainment systems in every seat. The new product will be launched early next year and the change will affect only Sydney-Canberra, Brisbane-Canberra, and Melbourne-Canberra routes.

“Our fleet plan is about putting the right aircraft on the right routes and improving the customer experience while reducing our cost base,” said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.  “As we take delivery of new aircraft, we are retiring older models – giving us a simpler fleet with greater operational efficiency.  At the same time, we retain the flexibility adjust our orders should operating conditions require it.”
