Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

1 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong SAR

Enjoying a prominent position overlooking Victoria Harbour, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong has been the hotel of choice for visiting dignitaries, high-profile politicians, and A-list celebrities since it first opened in late 1989. This jewel on the Wanchai waterfront shines as brightly as it did then, thanks to a four-year top-to-toe revamp that was completed in 2018 by Melbourne-based design firm BAR Studio. The hotel’s three-story art-deco inspired lobby, with its marbled columns and sweeping double staircase, makes for a striking first impression. Warm yet discreet service is a hallmark, as are elegant and tastefully appointed accommodations. Upstairs, the Grand Hyatt’s 542 spacious rooms and suites blend contemporary aesthetics with traditional Asian design touches in an understated manner. The majority feature harbor views; all have glass-enclosed bathrooms with standalone tubs. Located on the top three floors of the property, the hotel suites come in four distinct styles. Here, two Presidential Suites and five Ambassador Suites rank among the most sought-after lodgings in Hong Kong.

As for dining, guests have no less than 11 restaurants and bars to choose from. One Harbour Road tempts the palate with its exquisite Cantonese cuisine; Grand Hyatt Steakhouse specializes in prime cuts of beef; and casual-chic Italian venue Grissini is a long-standing local favorite. Gourmands can also feast on Japanese delights at Kaetsu, savor the European buffet at Tiffin, or pair a glass of bubbly with oysters and caviar at the Parisian-style Champagne Bar. At all-day dining venue Grand Cafe, the chefs prepare a dizzying range of Western and Asian dishes in a series of open kitchens, while alfresco poolside venue The Grill is popular for its weekend barbecue dinners.

Perched on the 11th floor, the lagoon-shaped outdoor pool is one of Hong Kong’s loveliest. At the residential-style Plateau Spa next door, weary travelers will unwind with personalized wellness rituals in the 13 treatment suites or 10 Plateau rooms and suites, some of which feature their own harbor-view terraces.

And with nearly two dozen meeting venues of different sizes, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is perfectly equipped for hosting glamorous events and major conferences. The largest is the Grand Ballroom; The Poolhouse offers a semi-outdoor setting for chic parties, and intimate gatherings can be held at The Residence, designed as an art-deco home with a communal show kitchen. Business travelers will find the hotel’s direct connection to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center a real bonus.

Located on the city’s famed harbour front, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong combines modern architecture with 1930s interiors and Art Deco accents. The flagship property of Hyatt International (it opened in 1989), the hotel’s 549 guest rooms and suites, most of which offer views over the harbor, start at 38 square meters and all feature floor-to-ceiling windows, marble tubs, and personal workstations. White-linen restaurant One Harbour Road serves traditional Cantonese cuisine in a refined setting, designed in light natural stone and rosewood timber to look like a Taipan’s house, while the Plateau spa on the 11th story is a welcome antidote to the pace of life in the city. The hotel’s Grand Club area offers four floors of executive accommodation and three floors comprising suites at the top of the hotel, while a team of personal butlers can provide dedicated business and travel support.
