The much anticipated delivery of the world’s first Boeing 787-9 aircraft has landed in Auckland. The new plane is the first of 10 787-9 Dreamliners to join Air New Zealand’s fleet and boasts a more spacious cabin interior (by 40 seats, compared to its predecessor) as well as cleaner air circulating throughout the cabin. Other innovations include larger windows that let in natural light, more balanced cabin humidity, and increased fuel efficiency. In line with Air New Zealand’s previous interiors, the plane will also feature the airline’s unique ‘sky couch’ sleeper seat, or three economy class seats used as a lie-flat bed. Business Premier, Premium Economy, and Economy class will be available on the plane. The aircraft will operate its first scheduled commercial route between Auckland and Perth in October, followed by services to Shanghai and Tokyo later this year.
