Wired passengers aboard Cathay Pacific flights can look forward to uninterrupted use of portable electronic devices from September 15. As long as airplane mode is enabled (and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are switched off), guests can use handheld devices during taxi, take-off, and landing. The decision comes on the heels of the decision by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department to approve the use of mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, MP3 players, and small game consoles throughout the duration of flights. Laptops, however, must be switched off and stowed during taxi, take-off, and landing. Cathay Pacific general manager of products Toby Smith said, “We are committed to improving our products and services to make flying a more pleasurable experience. We are sure our passengers will appreciate the opportunity to use their personal devices throughout the whole flight.”
