What sounds dreamier than flowers flying through the clouds? Two years ago, Finnair partnered with lifestyle design house and fellow Finnish brand Marimekko on a special aircraft facade featuring one of Marimekko’s cheerful floral designs, much to travelers’ delight. As this year marks the 50th anniversary of Marimekko’s signature Unikko print of poppy flowers, the two brands have decided to collaborate once again, wrapping the design around the tail-end of Finnair’s Airbus 330, which will service long-haul flights out of Helsinki beginning at the end of this year.

The blue color of the flower was inspired by the thousands of lakes that dot Finland’s pristine landscape and Finnair’s green ethos manifest in its future launch of an eco-smart Airbus A350 XWB and claim to being the first airline listed in the Leadership Index of the worldwide Carbon Disclosure Project. And inside the plane, food and beverages are served on far-from-mundane ware patterned with whimsical waves and playful dots. Says Marimekko’s COO Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko: “During this year we have been celebrating the 50 years of our most iconic pattern Unikko all over the world, reminding people of its story of courage and faith in oneself.”
