Over the weekend Japan Airlines launched its Tokyo-Boston service on its new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline claims it’s the first-ever nonstop flight to connect Asia to Boston. The airline took delivery of the cutting-edge aircraft in late March.
The in-flight entertainment system on this service includes a new offering called Sky Manga, which features more than 30 titles of Japanese comics available in electronic format. Lavatories in Executive Class feature a warm-water Toto Washlet. The airline has taken full advantage of the aircraft’s advanced LED system, signaling phases of inflight operations (meal service, sleep time, etc.) and even seasons by different hues.
The service offers 144 seats in economy and 42 in business class. The flight to Boston takes nearly 13 hours. Flights depart Tokyo (Narita) at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in Boston at 11:20 a.m. On the way back they leave Boston at 1:20 p.m. and arrive the next day at 4 p.m. After May 31 the service will become daily. For now the flights run four times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
