Qantas will be making changes to a number of flights with some permanent and one to accommodate the busy upcoming holiday season. From December 6 to February 1, Qantas will fly a new route between Perth and Auckland, which will add almost 1,000 seats a week during this busy holiday period. The twice-weekly route will be operated with an A330 aircraft equipped with skybeds.

“We’re able to make these changes by simply using our existing assets better,” Qantas Group Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said in a press release. “For instance, the new seasonal Perth to Auckland service uses an A330 that would otherwise be on the ground over the weekend.”

Starting on November 4, Qantas will also upgrade the airplane used on its Sydney-Hong Kong route from a 747 to an A380.

“The Qantas Group is serious about Asia and we’ve already increased capacity to Hong Kong by 10 percent this year,” Joyce added. “As well as adding almost 5 percent more seats per week on this route, the aircraft swap will increase the amount of flying done by our flagship A380 fleet into Asia.”

And using the 747 from the Sydney-Hong Kong route, Qantas will increase the frequency of its Brisbane-Los Angeles route from six times a week to daily starting on December 2.

The airline also announced it had retimed its Sydney–Christchurch service from the morning to the evening so that it would connect with more international services from Sydney and complement the existing Emirates service on this route.  The new schedule takes effect on October 27.
